Sleepland | Speculative Design & Product Design (2025)
Sleepland is a speculative project that explores the relationship between hustle culture and sleeping habits. It aims to question the imbalance between work and life, and to redefine sleep—not as a privilege, but as a new form of wealth.
The project imagines an alternative world where sleep is no longer a luxury, but the foundation of life, economy, and design. In Sleepland, success is not measured by how much you grind, but by how well you restore.
Through the Sleepland mobile app and the RestWatch wearable tracker, this project encourages younger generations to pay closer attention to their sleep quality and supports them in building healthier sleep habits.
Research Context
Vietnam’s young generation faces escalating pressures from a hyper-competitive, urbanizing economy, reflecting late capitalism’s hallmarks—corporate dominance, gig work, and commodified lifestyles. Research indicates rising sleep deprivation (averaging 6 hours/night among 18-25-year-olds, per 2023 Hanoi health surveys) and heavy caffeine reliance (cà phê sữa đá consumption up 30% since 2020, Vietnam Coffee Association). These trends correlate with burnout, anxiety, and financial precarity, exacerbated by late-night scrolling and hustle culture.
